about

Growing old is not the same as getting old. Getting old is a passive experience. we get older every moment of each day, however, we have to work to grow old.

Growth requires energy and effort, it requires facing truths that you might not necessarily want to accept and experiencing difficult situations. You don't need to climb a mountain to grow old, when getting out of bed or walking down a street in a world filled with people who make it clear they see you as less than is much more difficult.

We don't all grow old, some don't even get old, some of us succumb to the pressures of our world and society, and become fatal victims of the systems that exist within it. This isn't a weakness of character or spirit, but a testament to how toxic and damaging our fabricated reality can be.

That's why we all need to put in an effort to grow; so that these losses are not in vain and so that the future world is a place where we can all grow old.

- HG -

Recorded in three sessions over the summer of 2021 by Johnathan Sorensen and capping off at 13 minutes in length, Growing Old is one of Hunter Gatherer’s shortest and most poignant releases. The longest song: Spring Forth, Burly Protector runs just under 5 minutes and features some of the group's finest work as both songwriters and performers.

The beauty of this EP lies in the simplicity of its process. Hunter Gatherer has always made a point of recording “live, off the floor,” and doubled down on this by tracking directly to tape using only 8 tracks.
Any mistakes in performance couldn’t be overdubbed, the flaws of live performance (small tempo shifts, missed notes, stick hits), are left in as a testament to the integrity of Hunter Gatherer's sound and theme.

The band encourages the listeners to embrace honesty, to find peace in their faults and to strive to be their full selves.
